Services

Timber Sale Preparation, Marketing and Administration

For many landowners, conducting a timber sale is a once-in-a-lifetime activity.

A FRS Forester, by following your management objectives can identify the trees to be harvested, show the woodland to potential buyers, supervise the sale and advise you on the available alternatives.

After a buyer is selected, the FRS Forester will have the buyer sign the contract and arrange details of the logging operation. He will perform logging inspections on the timber sales to ensure the logger is conducting the logging operation according to the contract and according to the applicable government regulations.

Forest Management Planning

Having a Forest Management is a critical "First Step" in reaching your objectives.

A FRS Forester can develop management plans based on timber inventory and growth information collected on your property.

Our plans are customized to meet your objectives and along with an  assessment of you forest composition and health, will contain recommendations and schedules for future management activities, such as timber harvests and reforestation.

Timber Inventory and Appraisals

A buyer or seller of forest land needs to know the quantity or value of timber on the tract.

A FRS Forester can provide this information by performing a timber cruise and a site analysis. This involves measuring a representative sample of trees, preparing forest-type maps and calculating the volume and value of the timber.

Depending upon the purpose of the analysis, the FRS Forester will perform a small intensity inventory (Basic Management Plan) or a large intensity inventory (High-Value Timber Sale) in which each individual tree is inventoried to gather detailed estimates of the volume and value of your timber.

Boundary Line Maintenance

By having your boundaries marked, shows your ownership and helps to prevent future problems with trespass, timber theft and clearly conveys the location of the lines and your ownership to adjacent landowners.

A FRS Forester can check the deed registry, and refurbish boundary lines by painting them with long lasting boundary line paint.

If a survey is needed, he can help you hire a registered land surveyor to reestablish or establish new ones.

Reforestation

The establishment of a new forest is encouraged by providing growing space through harvesting, eradicating or removing all or part of the preceding forest crop. Prescribed burning, mechanical and chemical site preparations are just a few of the treatments that are sometimes necessary to create the environmental conditions for natural or artificial regeneration of your forest.

A FRS Forester can identify the area, type and timing of treatments needed to reforest your tract. He can assist in the selection of a contractor that can perform the recommended treatments and inspect the area upon completion.

Forest Land Use Taxation

That land you recently inherited or purchased may qualify for forestry land-use tax evaluation! If your investment objective for your property is to manage the land for timber, your acreage may qualify to be taxed at the "timberland use" rate.

A FRS Forester, can help determine if you qualify and reduce the property tax burden from your forestland. In many cases, the Forest Management Plan that he prepares for you can be used to apply for assessment under your counties land use taxation criteria. If qualified, under this program, taxes you owe on your timberland each year can be significantly reduced.

Contact FRS, and let us explain the criteria for qualification under the program and help you take the necessary application steps to reducing your property taxes each year.
